I have a health insurance coverage gap during the 7 days between my old insurance ending and my new one beginning at a new job. Of course, that is when my long-awaited surgery is scheduled, and can't be moved without waiting months more or switching doctors. My new insurance will also be Anthem HSA PPO, just like my old one, just with a new group.

We have been out of the country for the past two weeks, and now I'm scrambling to figure out the situation with my doctor's billing department, which has realized that my coverage ends on 6/30, while my surgery is scheduled for 7/2. When I asked for the cash price of the procedure ( cataract surgery, but on a complicated eye ), I was quoted ~30k.

As I see it, I could :

Elect COBRA I am in the 60 day window, as my coverage ends 6/30 Have not received the COBRA info from old employer yet Not sure if I can sign up on Monday in time to have coverage Tuesday Not sure if I will get reimbursed the whole amount if cash price is > insurance price Pay the cost from HSA I have enough in my HSA to cover, but would like to keep it growing as an investment Not sure how reimbursement to HSA would work? Pay the cost from cash I have enough also, but that is a lot of cash for something that should be covered Maybe the new health insurance will be retroactive to the start of the month? Doubt it Reschedule surgery with same doctor on new insurance Could be months more Reschedule surgery with new doctor on new insurance Only a week or two delay New doctor doesn't know my extensive eye history

Any other ideas?

BTW, does someone have a working link for electing Cobra through Wageworks/HealthEquity? All links I found aren't working rn…
