Moving to California—Where My Illinois Insurance is non-existent!

Im (21f) originally from Illinois, but my boyfriend and I are moving to California. I take controlled meds that are pretty expensive without insurance. In Illinois, I am covered as a dependent under my parents insurance [ HealthLink Open Access III ]. I am wanting to keep this, as I do plan to visit for the entire summers or other times I have off ever so often when I have time (a month or two as well). However, in California, the insurance my parents have is non-existent as its pretty much Illinois only. In California I won’t have much income, and definitely not enough to pay for my meds, so I will need to be on independent insurance there, with the one I’ve been looking at being Medi-Cal.. my parents don’t have enough money to shoulder another insurance such as one in Cali. I’m new to the whole insurance thing and I have no idea what to do… help!

Also, my boyfriends insurance with his parents is covered in California as well as Illinois so he doesn’t have this issue. We were also wondering that if he were to get medi-Cal, would he be able to claim me as a dependent and in turn still be able to be dependent on my parents’ plan as well.
