COBRA and deductible/OOP question

I retire next month and our insurance paid through the end of July. On August 1st we will be eligible for COBRA. However, I'm not getting answers from my employer or current insurance that sound like firm answers. The problem is I would LIKE to switch to spouse only coverage for COBRA, as I can use VA myself. We have already met our maximum out of pocket for the year. If I elect COBRA for BOTH of us I know it will continue to be met.

The problem is with spouse only. I keep asking if it's spouse only, does it become an individual policy with the then lower deductibles and max out of pocket, and if so does it count all payments made when it was a family plan, or just payments made for my wife in the past getting applied? The reason for the issue is we hit our max based on my own expenses. Even with lower limits we will have little applied in her name. Since she has a surgery later this year it would be cheaper for me to just chose COBRA for both of us to maintain being at max OOP, but they can't give me a straight answer. They just repeat "It's a continuation" which I already know. They repeat I can chose "Spouse Only", but the info stops right there and they can't state what the deductible would be if taking that option. So, just curious if anyone has past experience on how it may be done generally.

Edit: For clarification it is just myself and my wife, family coverage, but we have a single family deductible and OOP with no individual limits and why my own expenses covered them both currently.
