Short Term Disability Insurance as a Part Time Employee? (Texas)

I am currently a part time employee with a municipal government. Despite being classified as part time, I work more than 40 hours per week with the exception of when I take vacations, and as a result I qualify for health insurance through my job.

My husband and I are planning to try for a baby next year. In an ideal world, I'd have a full time job that provides maternity leave. Unfortunately, I'm a grad student and need the flexibility of my part time job.

I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of paying for something like AFLAC for short term pregnancy disability so I might have some sort of income during my time away from work? The municipality I work for offers short term disability insurance for pregnant people as a substitute for maternity leave pay, but they must be notified 10 months before it has to be used and I have no idea if I qualify for it as a part time employee.

Any guidance appreciated. Thank you!
