If you’re in the market for an affordable electric SUV from Jeep, but you feel left out because the brand plans to bring yet another pricey EV to market, just wait. Car & Driver reports that Jeep has confirmed that a familiar nameplate is returning as an EV in 2027.

A Eulogy For The Jeep Renegade

Speaking at an investor presentation, Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa confirmed that the Renegade will be returning as an EV for under $25,000 in the next three years, a shocking price if they can pull it off. If they’re able to sell the Reneagde at that price, it’ll make it cheaper than the Europe-only Jeep Avenger as Autocar points out. The Avenger starts just under $26,000 in the U.K.

We last saw the Renegade for the 2023 model year before it was discontinued. Debuting for the 2015 model year, Stellantis brought over the small Italian built SUV to do battle with other subcompact crossovers like the Honda HR-V, Buick Encore and Nissan Kicks.

While Car & Driver says that Filosa confirmed the Renegade will be an EV, he also didn’t rule out gas and 4XE versions. The U.S. market desperately needs cheaper EVs though and Stellantis seems to know what it needs to do to be able to sell the Renegade at this cheap price point. It seems though that the company will be selling the Renegade at this price point on its own rather than relying on tax credits.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares also spoke today at the event, saying the company will need to produce lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries to reach the $25,000 price point in the United States. As things stand right now, neither Jeep nor its parent company Stellantis can produce the cheaper LFP batteries in the U.S., suggesting that earning the federal tax credits could be a production hurdle.

The Renegade won’t be the only new Jeep model in the brand’s lineup. The presentation showed Jeep’s product timeline through late 2027. Following the Wagoneer S later this year, the all electric Recon is supposed to be shown by the end of the year. Two new products – one riding on the brands STLA medium platform and one on its STLA Large platform – will launch next year. Then in 2027, a new Compass is expected as well as refreshes for Wrangler, Gladiator, Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer.
