The LT in the 765 Spider’s name stands for “Longtail.” While the actual back of the car isn’t extended much compared to the 720S on which it’s based, the performance, handling, and aerodynamic upgrades are substantial.
The 2022 765LT Spider uses the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine found in both the McLaren 720S and the outrageous Senna. For the LT, it’s been tuned to 755 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.
This is a fast convertible, and not just on the track. Want the top down? It stows away in 11 seconds, at speeds up to 31 mph.
If you want all the sound and none of the UV rays, the rear window can be lowered to let the soundtrack in.
Not only do the quad-exit pipes sound good and look like a fighter jet, they also save weight. The system is made from titanium, which is 40 percent lighter than a standard steel exhaust.
The wing flaps! In Active mode, it rises up for more downforce, lays flat for top speed, and flips forward for air-brake assist.
The bodywork is ducted and overlapped in complex and aerodynamically effective ways. Don’t get lost in there.
To save weight, the interior is mostly carbon fiber and faux suede. Everything that could be made thinner, was, from the glass to the tunnel console.
The 765LT gets its own special 10-spoke forged alloy wheels and tuned Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R rubber.
We described the 765LT’s predecessor, the F1, as capable of a Mars launch. The 765LT Spider might take us out of this universe, with a factory-stated zero-to-60 time of 2.7 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 10 seconds flat.
