Hi all! I’m 21 and just went to an orthro for the first time on my own since starting on my own health insurance. Long story short, I paid my $70 copay at the visit, but after the visit was billed for over $1k for things such as “x-rays, a boot, the visit” and so on. A buuuuunch of listed costs, some I’m not even sure what they are! Here’s the kicker, and where I need advice.

Before any “work” was done, when the doctor’s assistant came into my room, I asked her if the things the doctor was “suggesting” like the x-rays and the boot were optional. She said the doctor suggested them but that they were all covered by my $70 copay and by my insurance. So of course, me thinking they were covered I opted into them. I obviously would have opted out had she not told me they were covered, and that I would have to foot a 1k+ bill!

Now, I’ve tried calling their billing office 4 times now and each time am told they will be reaching out to the doctor who saw me and get back to me within a certain amount of days. Of course, none of the 4 people I spoke to have ever gotten back to me. It’s coming up on 60 days since I was originally billed I’m scared it will go to collections. Please help on what to do!
