Nephila Capital, the climate and catastrophe risk focused insurance-linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance investment manager unit of Markel, has hired Brenner Anderson as an underwriter in Bermuda, who brings experience in weather derivatives and parametric risk transfer from his time at Arbol.

Nephila Capital has been hiring a number of new recruits in recent months and continues to be in the market for new expertise. There are a number of current job opportunities at the ILS manager listed on the Artemis job board.

Anderson has started at Nephila Capital’s Bermuda office as an Underwriter in recent weeks, we understand.

He has a wealth of relevant experience, both across reinsurance and capital markets, including some time spent working specifically on insurance-linked securities (ILS) initiatives.

Anderson’s most recent role was at Arbol, the technology-led underwriter of parametric risk transfer, climate and weather insurance or reinsurance business.

He spent just over two years working at Arbol, initially as a product manager and underwriter, but then becoming a structuring and origination lead for parametric weather derivatives and insurance at the firm.

Which is particularly relevant expertise for Nephila, given the ILS manager has operated weather and climate risk focused investment strategies for well over a decade and has the dedicated unit Nephila Climate nowadays.

Before his time at Arbol, Anderson worked at reinsurance broker Gallagher Re for more than two years as an analyst with a focus on structuring and origination of ILS opportunities for clients.

Prior to that, Anderson worked as a proprietary equity trader at investment firm Trillium Management, LLC, before which he was an intern at Loews Corporation working on investments.
