Best plan for pregnancy? Copay vs HSA
My wife and I are expecting our first baby at the end of October and just got the option to change our health care plan (Cigna) through her work. They have 4 options and we’re trying to decide which one will be best. I know we’ll probably plan on hitting our OPP just from what we’ve heard, so the answer should just be a matter of which plan will require the least amount of money from us, right?
Copay Plan 1) – deductible: 1500 – monthly premium: 450 (600 with baby) – OOP max: 5,000 – total responsibility: 11,600
Copay Plan 2) – deductible: 2500 – monthly premium: 250 (300 with baby) – OOP max: 11,000 – total responsibility: 14,400
HSA Plan 1) – deductible: 3200 – monthly contribution: ~134 – OOP max: 9,000 – total responsibility: 10,600
HSA Plan 2) – deductible: 6400 – monthly contribution: ~266 (+100 employer match) – OOP max: 9,000 – total responsibility: 12,200
So I’m basically just trying to decide between the first copay plan and one of the HSA plans (we currently have the second HSA plan) since the total cost are pretty close (even more so with the employer match on HSA plan 2).
I’d appreciate any input if you think I’m forgetting something, if there’s something else I should consider, or if you think I’m mistaken anywhere in my math or assumptions. Thanks!
