COBRA better for me? (I need to submit paperwork soon!)

Hubby lost his job and insurance ended on 6/1, so we're having to decide on CORBA or obtaining a whole new plan. I know COBRA is expensive and it's not something I'd usually consider, but with my circumstances I think it's a better choice and I need to see if my thinking is straight. (It's all so overwhelming 🙁 )

We're in CA and it's only hubby and I on our Anthem Blue Cross PPO. I personally have met my out of pocket maximum ($4000) and deductible ($1,000) and it shows as a family we have $400 to go on the deductible and $3,000 left on the $8000 out of pocket max.

The COBRA paperwork we just received said the COBRA payment would be $1,5000 a month for us both, which honestly is quite a bit less than I expected.

I'm recovering from a knee replacement with follow-up and PT needed, and I have two more surgeries scheduled for August with numerous pre-op appointments in the next month or so.

Based on all of this, I think I'm better off sticking with COBRA instead of starting all over with a new insurance, but am I missing something?

And bonus question: If we do go COBRA, is it a whole new plan or ID # that I'll need to resubmit to Sutter for re-approval on upcoming visits that are on the books? Or do I just get to carry on as if nothing changed?
