American International Group (AIG) has appointed Gordon Browne (pictured) as global head of specialty.

Effective June 11, the appointment marks Browne’s return to AIG. He is making the switch from Allianz, where he has been global head of specialty since April 2023. Reporting to Jon Hancock, executive vice president and chief executive of international insurance at AIG, Browne will also be part of the international insurance leadership team.

In his new remit, Browne will oversee the global strategy for AIG’s specialty businesses, which span global marine, aviation, credit lines, and energy & construction.

Browne expressed enthusiasm about his AIG comeback, saying: “Rejoining AIG at this exciting time is an extraordinary opportunity. I am looking forward to working with Jon Hancock and the most talented global team in the industry to drive the company’s continued growth and deliver critical technical expertise and differentiated value to our clients and broker partners.”

The incoming global specialty head has over 20 years of industry experience in both the US and the UK. He held several senior leadership roles during his previous eight-year stint at AIG. These include global head of energy & construction and head of North America specialty.

Hancock commented: “With more than two decades of executive leadership experience in global specialty insurance, Gordon Browne is uniquely qualified to drive our specialty business forward as we build on our momentum as a leading global property and casualty insurer.
