Didn’t Updated Income For CoveredCA – Do I pay penalties?
Hello all!
I am new to reddit, so pardon if the formatting is incorrect.
The timeline: I applied and was approved for CoveredCA in 2021 due to being unemployed and needing insurance. I then got a job in December 2021 and worked until mid 2022. I then got a job January 2023 where my employer paid for my insurance. I currently am now unemployed.
I was under the assumption that CoveredCA would automatically remove me after the year period of 2021 since I did not reenroll. I discovered that I had CC coverage until end of this month. I submitted my taxes late for the year 2022-2022, so the program was unaware of my income which each year was below the $33975.00 limit. Will I be penalized despite being under the income limit? Or will there still be a penalty due to not reporting the change within 14 days?
If anyone could help that would be great as I am stressing out over this. I have called my county's office which hasn't been helpful and they're unable to give me a clear answer. TYIA!
