Pre-paying for a procedure and insurance discounts
I'm not sure if this is the right place, and I am assuming the answer will be or include "depends on your plan" but figured I'd ask in case there is a simple answer to this.
I have an upcoming procedure that I elected to pre-pay for to save 10%. The procedure is more than my remaining out of pocket maximum, and the remainder was automatically portioned to my insurance. I'm realizing now that I am unsure if any insurance discounts have been pre-applied to the overall cost of the procedure. Are insurance discounts applied on pre-payments, or only after care is received? Broken down below as I am unsure how to explain without numbers:
Numbers are examples but close to accurate:
Procedure: $6000
OOP Max: $4000
Insurance pays difference: $2000
If insurance discounts are applied after the procedure, and are greater than $2000 (unlikely I'd imagine,) would I get a refund from the hospital?
