BMS Risk Solutions, a specialty risk consultancy and brokerage firm in New Zealand, has announced the appointment of Nathan Richmond as the director of its Auckland branch, effective May 1.

Richmond, formerly a senior figure at Marsh, where he served as global head of product innovation, will be reporting to the BMS board.

Richmond brings more than 20 years of experience in various strategic and operational roles within the insurance industry, particularly in developing client solutions and spearheading growth initiatives in New Zealand and on the global stage.

In his role at BMS, Richmond will helm efforts to widen the company’s client engagement and its presence in the North Island, building on the firm’s significant growth in corporate business and institutional sectors since its inception in October 2021.

“Drawing on over two decades of invaluable experience in the NZ, UK, and Canadian insurance markets, Richmond brings a wealth of expertise to BMS,” said David Gibbons, director of BMS in New Zealand. “With Richmond working alongside our highly experienced team of 30 risk advisory professionals, BMS focus remains steadfast: placing our clients at the forefront of every decision we make. We’re thrilled to have him join the BMS team.”

“BMS is not only undergoing a period of impressive growth, but it is also balancing that with a culture and a reputation for superior client service,” Richmond said. “I have always been drawn to opportunities where I can contribute to growth but in a way that raises the bar for client service in the industry. In BMS I see exactly that.

“I’m delighted to be joining the team and look forward to supporting the drive to further build on BMS’s impressive record of delivering innovative risk solutions to companies that form the backbone of New Zealand’s economy.”

This new division aims to bolster market capacity, drive solution innovation, and deliver specialised risk management and insurance services to healthcare providers and their insurers, particularly focusing on medical malpractice and associated liabilities.
