Maternity Care – Switching Insurance

I am currently 6 months pregnant and my husband is changing jobs, so we will be without insurance for about a month and a half. By the time I have insurance again, I will be 8.5 months.

My OB office said that the new insurance likely won’t cover the delivery fully because of this. She also mentioned that because of global billing, that wouldn’t be covered either.

I’ll have had three appointments that would be on global billing from my current insurance, then five or six that I will have to pay out-of-pocket for, then the remainder on new insurance.

Can my current OB just not submit appointments through my insurance that are covered now? Then I’m self paying anyway, and bill the final appointments with new insurance?

It isn’t making sense to me how insurance could not cover something if it’s a covered benefit, and why the OB office doesn’t have to bill my current insurance for appointments under the current insurance.

Help!
