Like telling people to put on their seatbelts, it’s sad that we still have to remind people that they shouldn’t drive drunk. Maybe it’s time we start getting more serious about how we remind people. Like showing them the dumb, near death experiences that can happen when they do — such as a recent head-on crash up in Michigan that involved two drunk drivers.

The Detroit News reports that two drunk drivers had a head on crash on Interstate 696 in Madison Heights, Michigan on May 5. The ordeal started around 4:30 am local time. Authorities report that they began receiving multiple 911 calls about a driver heading the wrong way on the interstate. It ended up being a Chrysler 300 traveling east.
At the same time, a Jeep Grand Cherokee was on the interstate heading in the opposite direction. A short time later, both the 300 and Grand Cherokee collided head on.
Amazingly, authorities say both drivers suffered only minor injuries. However, both drivers were instantly suspected of being drunk.
Authorities obtained warrants for both drivers to receive blood draws at the hospital. When the results came back, it was clear: Both drivers were drunk, and both would be charged.
Disturbingly, the two drivers weren’t the only ones driving under the influence over the weekend. In a statement, Michigan State Police trooper First Lt. Mike Shaw said that his troopers arrested over a dozen people suspected of driving under the influence.
“There are so many options available to avoid getting behind the wheel impaired,” Shaw said. So again, please don’t drive drunk. It’s dumb and dangerous.
