I have no idea how medical insurance works, please help

I am looking at short term insurance plans since I missed open enrollment but I have absolutely no idea how health insurance, deductibles, and copay work.

I'm currently looking at allstate insurance since thats who carry's my car insurance, but I don't know what their plans actually mean or if its a good deal.

For example, one of the plans available says "Short term plan with $25,000 deductible and $250,000 max benefit" then says:

"doctor visits 40% after deductible

x-rays & labs 40% after deductible; max $15,000

urgent care $50 plus coinsurance; deductible waived

hospitalization 40% after deductible"

With those factors, what would I pay out of pocket for a routine checkup if that checkup is say $300 gross cost. It says its $89 a month which seems very cheap for health insurance.

I'm just trying to get an understanding of what these terms mean since I was never taught. Any explanations are greatly appreciated.
