Hospital sent me a bill for $62k

So, I had tibia surgery last September under a provider not in the network. My insurance reached out to my provider, and they signed a single case agreement indicating that the insurance would fully cover the entire amount with no patient responsibility, since my surgery was medically necessary.

Now, 8 months later, the provider is asking me to pay $62k because the insurance didn't pay the full amount they agreed on in the agreement. When I called the provider, they told me the insurance company didn't want to reply to them, but they have to pay it since that was their agreement and it's signed. they also told me, 'Worst case, you have to pay it.'

From a legal point of view, why do I even need to pay it in the worst case?! Since this matter should be between the insurance and the provider, given they already have a signed agreement? Why did they even send me a bill for $62k? I wouldn't have even gotten the surgery if I knew I would end up paying this amount. What should I do here?
