My dads insurance want him to do 90 day prescriptions
Hi, my dad who is 57 and has blue cross has used walmart 30 day scripts for his medicine for years. I don't ever remember him using anything else. He is on a lot of meds due to health conditions. Recently his insurance though is the same plan his been on, has changed slightly and now they're trying to force him to use cvs 90 day prescriptions. Thing thing is, the closest cvs is hr away and mail in is NOT something we trust/can do.
Because I tried using it with my insurance and what always happened was I ran out of a med and they'd send it that day and it wouldn't show up for weeks or a month, another time it took two months for a cholesterol medicine to show up. This happened everytime for almost a year until I stopped mail-in because the mail is NOT good where we live.
We leave outside a city in the woods and when things say 2 day shipping thats bullshit. It never is and the local mail has never mailed things quickly due to worker shortages they've had for years. Some my dads meds are cold and we live in TX! He can't risk cold meds being ruined or life saving meds not coming in on time.
The other issue is he cannot afford all his meds at once for 90 days scripts. They live pay check to pay check. He hardly can afford the meds he gets now sigh.He is scared he won't be able to take hos medicine because of this… Also idk but just encase someone asks he can't get change his insurance because it is with work otherwise hr couldn't afford it. But the government say he makes to much to get the cheap insurance with them.
Now the thing is when he logs into blue cross it STATES on the website he CAN use Walmart. That it is im network. I confirmed this by looking for him too. He even called a lady with them and she said only cvs and 90 days but my dad pointed out on the website with his information/account it states walmart is on the pharmacy list and in network. Then she saw and confirmed it too. Yet the insurance is still saying they are refusing to cover it.
He is starting to panic and I don't blame him. He already had to stop taking his ozempic for diabetes because the change in his insurance refuses to pay for it even though he had been before for years.
I want to help him but have NO IDEA what to do. Is there anyway around this for him? He can't afford 90 days for all his meds and he is running out of all of them. And Cvs is a far drive too. Is there anyway around this for him? I feel helpless to help him.
Also I'm sorry if I posted this wrong or this isn't the right place. I wasn't sure where to go. Not sure how to help him.
Thank you.
