Having a prevention-first approach means we’re always working to better support your clients with their risk management strategies. Part of this is staying one step ahead of emerging risks and being aware of any trends in the risk industry. Each quarter, we’ll be sharing an update from our experts on what’s new in Risk Management, including new Loss Prevention Standards and a roundup of our latest news articles.

Metal Thefts on the Rise Again

We’ve recently been made aware of significant cable thefts from infrastructure and non-infrastructure sites during 2024. A recent report from the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Metal, Stone and Heritage Crime reveals that metal theft cost the UK economy nearly half a billion pounds in 2022 and highlights the rise of theft to catalytic converters, lead roofs, and cables.

For further information on how to manage this risk, please take a look at our Aviva Metal Theft Loss Prevention Standard.

Our Specialist Partner Selectamark can provide various Forensic DNA marking products which can help reduce the likelihood of theft, act as a deterrent and help improve the traceability of stolen materials.

Fire & Security – closure of British Telecom Redcare Services

BT have announced that they’ve made the decision to close all BT Redcare operations on 1 August 2025. Intruder and fire alarm installers have recently been sent a notice advising them of this and the need to move all customers using BT Redcare services to an alternative service provider by this date.

Drones

To increase our digital risk management capabilities, we now have three new drone pilots who have successfully completed their aerial inspection training. We’ve also increased our thermographic capability with two new thermographic drones and a mini drone which gives us more flexibility for quicker, simpler flights. For more information about our in-house aerial inspection capability please take a look at our dedicated drones webpage
