United Healthcare 1 year runaround (not related to data breech) help! (Provider)

Cross post from r/ r/therapists (was recommend by a poster)

Hi everyone, my wife has a small practice and we have been operating successfully for about 2 years now. At the beginning of 2023 around March we suddenly had UHC start declining all our claims we sent in out of nowhere with the error message saying we are not authorized to preform the services rendered. This was odd since we had been getting paid for these clients up until this point.

Well long story short for the last year I have been going back and forth on the phone with them trying to get this sorted and I have also talked to the state (MI) because they said we were out of network. The state said nope everything is good and they are idiots. I have talked to many "managers" and gotten the run around waiting on call backs and yada yada that never happen and I can never get a hold of the previous person I talked to. They are always gone for the day and will call me back tomorrow.

Me wife has continued to see these clients and we are owed over 10,000 dollars which we really need to help with taxes. We eventually got to a point where we did get a claim through but they took all the payout back saying we owed them… At this point the 1 year mark was approaching and my wife said screw it and sent all the claims (they could not tell use how much we "owed" them when I called) and we just said well whatever we magically owe them they can take so we can get some money for these. Well they all just came back and most were denied for being to old and the more recent were denied with the same old error message saying we are not authorized to preform the services rendered.

At this point I am at my wits end. We are still a very young practice and I don't know if its even worth attempting legal action due to the potential cost. My wife does not want to stop seeing her long time clients which I understand but the financial strain is really hurting us. Does anyone have any idea of where or who I can contact? This seems criminal how incompetent these people are and they just bury their heads and wait for the expiration on claims to come around. I have spent HOURS and HOURS on the phone only to get no where with these people. Thanks for reading and thanks to anyone who has any suggestions.
