ILS casualty specialist and reinsurance investment platform MultiStrat has marked a decade of operations in Bermuda, highlighting its achievements and rapid growth in the past year.
Since its inception in 2014, MultiStrat has underwritten and facilitated over 50 transactions, spanning single and multi-class deals. The firm has effectively deployed $1.75 billion of capital on behalf of investors, with more than $500 million in premiums written for a single alternative asset manager and several transactions individually surpassing $100 million in premiums.
Focusing primarily on medium- to long-duration casualty coverages, MultiStrat has also provided advisory services for the establishment and management of various segregated accounts, cells, and structures tailored to meet the specific needs of cedants, carriers, and investors.
In recent times, MultiStrat has also expanded its team with key appointments across underwriting, capital markets, and operations on an international scale. The firm also inaugurated a New York office and broadened its offerings in collateralized reinsurance.
Looking back on the past 10 years
Bob Forness, CEO of MultiStrat, reflected on the company’s journey and achievements over the past decade.
“We are proud of what MultiStrat has accomplished since its first ILS Casualty transaction in 2017 and look forward to collaborating further with brokers on attractive reinsurance opportunities, and with investors on diversified opportunities to participate in this growing alternative asset class,” Forness said.
“Building a collateralized reinsurance specialist for cedents and investors has taken time but is now ready to scale. As an innovator in a new asset class, MultiStrat has successfully solved many challenges, including an initial soft market and low investment yield environment in casualty, continual education needs of investors, new designs for collateral and investments, and, more recently, improved collateral transparency. Our company has a proven track record and is excited for our next chapter.”
“The ILS space is continuing to grow and expand into different risk classes, providing more opportunities for institutional investors looking for total insurance and investment returns through high frequency, low severity business,” MultiStrat capital arm CEO Jim Robinson added.
