Global reinsurance giant Swiss Re has hired a former insurance-linked securities (ILS) employee back from investment bank Goldman Sachs, with Edward Barton rejoining the reinsurer as Head of ILS Structuring Americas.

Barton had most recently worked at Goldman Sachs for almost five years, as a Vice President of Investment Banking with a focus on structuring ILS and reinsurance capital markets arrangements.

According to an update to his Linkedin profile, Edward Barton has now rejoined Swiss Re this month, in a role that appears to see him leading ILS structuring for the Americas, presumably within the Swiss Re Capital Markets division.

Barton has a long career focused on securitization products and insurance-linked securities (ILS).

He worked at Nomura for over four years from 2012, as an analyst and associate focused on securitized products at the bank.

Barton then first joined Swiss Re in 2016, as an AVP of ILS Structuring, then in 2018 became a Vice President at the company.

He then joined Goldman Sachs in 2019 and took an increasingly senior role in the investment banks ILS structuring work over the almost five years he worked there.

March 2024 sees Barton re-joining Swiss Re to lead ILS structuring across the Americas, a role that will see him having responsibility for catastrophe bonds and other ILS structuring opportunities at the firm’s Capital Markets division.
