Gallagher Re has announced a promotion for one of its key regions in Europe.

The reinsurance broker has elevated André Gerling (pictured) to the position of head of region for D/A/CH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), the Netherlands, and Central and Eastern Europe. Gerling will officially begin his duties on June 1, 2024.

The strategic move comes as Hamish Dowlen, the current head of the region, prepares to transition into his new role as managing director of EMEA.

Prior to his new appointment, Gerling served as the head of large & complex clients EMEA at Gallagher Re, a position he has held since July 2023.

Before joining Gallagher Re, he contributed his expertise at Willis Re as head of analytics, service offering & customized solutions for EMEA North/East, and at Aon Benfield as an analyst. Gerling also gained experience as an intern at Allianz Reinsurance.

Educationally, Gerling holds a master of mathematical finance from the University of Konstanz and is a qualified actuary through the Deutsche Aktuarsvereinigung (German Actuarial Association).

Dowlen, who Gerling will succeed, expressed his confidence in Gerling’s abilities.

“Andre has many years of experience in the region and across different parts of Europe and is well-known to our clients and reinsurers. I look forward to continuing to work with Andre in his new role and I’m confident that he is the right person to lead our business in this region going forward,” Dowlen said.
