Maserati GranTurismo Gains A Topless Sister In The New GranCabrio

The new Maserati GranCabrio enters the market as an AWD, 542-hp, four-seat cabriolet that will compete against the likes of the Bentley Continental GTC, Ferrari Roma Spider, and Aston Martin DB12 Volante. Despite the new name, this is just a new GranTurismo cabriolet, which is not a bad thing considering that the GranTurismo is a beautiful and powerful exotic GT car. As someone who always loves going topless, I am a fan of any new convertibles entering the market, even the ones I will likely never be able to afford.

For specs on this vehicle, refer to our GranTurismo reviews. Kidding — the GranCabrio gains 220 pounds on the GranTurismo and will initially be launched with a single powertrain, Maserati’s sensational 542-hp twin turbocharged 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 which also has some Ferrari and Alfa Romeo DNA. Maserati claims that this new Italian cabriolet can claw its way from 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds which is easily fast enough to ruin your expensive designer hairdo, so buyers beware.

It has all of the usual tech options available in luxurious cars including adjustable air suspension, Level 2 ADAS tech, and a heads-up display, as well as standard tech like a 12.3-inch central display, 8.8-inch comfort display, and a 12.2-inch digital gauge cluster. To operate the GranCabrio’s fabric top, you can either hold a button or use gesture controls by swiping and holding a finger to the right to open or to the left to close. Of course the GranCabrio has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Alexa access and “Hey Maserati” functionality.

The GranCabrio is all about the cabriolet experience, which this Maserati should achieve nicely. Standard neck warmers will keep you feeling coddled while trouncing around topless, and the canvas roof which is available in black, blue marine, titan grey, greige, or garnet, can open in 14 seconds and close in 16 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph. An optional foldable wind deflector will be available to minimize wind buffeting, but it does eliminate the usage of the rear seats when deployed.

The new Maserati GranCabrio is a powerful and beautiful Italian cabriolet that will likely carry a hefty price tag. Maserati hasn’t announced pricing yet, but deliveries are scheduled to begin in North America this summer. Rich folks just got another new way to flex their wealth, but this time with a Maserati trident on the front and a fabric roof up top.
