Re/insurance group Ascot has announced the formation of a new marine & energy treaty reinsurance division, under the leadership of Alex Kirkby, who takes on the role of senior vice president, head of marine & energy in Bermuda.
With a background that spans over 10 years in the marine & energy sector, Kirkby brings a wealth of experience from both the brokerage and carrier perspectives to his new role at Ascot. He was previously vice president at Validus Reinsurance where he focused on marine, energy, and composite business lines.
Kirkby’s career also includes positions at PartnerRe and Willis Re, further solidifying his expertise in the field. He shared his perspective on joining Ascot, emphasizing the company’s focus on underwriting excellence, collaboration, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
“I am delighted to join their team of dedicated industry professionals and bring my knowledge and leadership experience to the company’s Bermuda platform to launch the marine & energy treaty portfolio alongside Emma Foxley,” he said. “With this new business capability, Ascot will continue to support and strengthen its excellent value proposition for both our clients and brokers.”
In addition to Kirby, Foxley joins him as vice president, marine and energy, also based in Bermuda.
Foxley transitions to Ascot from the Lancashire Insurance Group, having previously served as an underwriter within its specialty reinsurance segment. Her career began at Markel CATCo Investment Management as a portfolio analyst, and she has since dedicated herself to forging and enhancing client relationships throughout Bermuda.
Simon Kimberley, Ascot Bermuda’s chief underwriting officer for property, expressed his enthusiasm about the new appointments.
“Alex and Emma’s combined expertise, experience and strong broker and client connections will complement our existing group relationships and capabilities,” he said. “Ascot has long been regarded as a leader in the Marine sector and this strategic expansion into marine & energy treaty business underscores our continued commitment to the space.”
