Insurance Business Canada (IBC) recently recognized the 5-Star Carriers of 2023 and Aviva Canada has clinched the title for a second time.

Ben Isotta-Riches, chief distribution officer at Aviva Canada, attributed this win to the company’s ability to foster strong relationship with brokers.

“Brokers are our key partners, so it’s wonderful to have them push us to the top of the podium,” he said. “It speaks about the trust we’ve built between brokers and Aviva, the strength of our relationships, and our continued commitment toward independent brokers as a meaningful channel in Canada.”

Isotta-Riches also spoke of his experience engaging with brokers across the country. He recounted how he was able to leverage their feedback in order to adjust Aviva’s strategies throughout the year.

This process has ensured the delivery of exceptional claims service, competitive products, fair pricing, and a streamlined underwriting process, according to Isotta-Riches.

“One of the things that makes us different is that we invest time in building an understanding of brokers’ business so that when there are challenging circumstances, we know we can rely on each other and we know what we need from each other,” he said.

The success of Aviva’s approach is clear when looking at what brokers would like to see more of from their carrier partners.

In the survey conducted by IBC to determine the 5-Star Carriers of 2023, brokers said they want more face-to-face engagements with insurance carriers. They specified their desire for open visits, events, and more direct interaction.

Additionally, they offered advice on how carriers can boost broker engagement.

“Speak to us, seek input, and implement changes,” said one respondent.

“Better service on new business quotes and punctual responses on client files,” said another.
