COBRA Subsidized for 1 month – Do I still need to elect coverage?
I was laid off mid-November, and my normal insurance continued until Nov 30. As part of my severance package, my employer offered 1 month of COBRA subsidized. I received the forms in the mail which confirmed employer subsidized COBRA through 12/31/23. However, when I called my pharmacy, they are not showing my prescriptions to be covered by insurance today (12/2/23). I then contacted my health insurance carrier and they are not seeing that COBRA is active. I haven't looked at the COBRA registration member portal stuff, because I just assumed my coverage would continue until Dec 31. Do I need to go through the election process to activate COBRA? The COBRA carrier is closed today but the online system forces you to select at least one product and pay for it, but I am just wanting to take advantage of my employer covered COBRA for the month of December. I am planning on calling the COBRA carrier on Monday when their offices reopen, but I am worried since I did a blood test yesterday 12/1/23 assuming my insurance was still active that I'll have to completely pay out of pocket for it.
