A Closer Look At the Mazda Iconic SP Concept In All Of Its FD RX-7-eqsue Glory

Mazda just revealed its shiny new Iconic SP concept sports car at the Japan Mobility Show, and my goodness is it a good-looking little car with styling that pulls heavily from the third-generation FD Mazda RX-7.
What makes this car interesting is more than skin deep, though. Under the hood is a twin-rotor hybrid powerplant that puts out a Mazda-claimed 364 horsepower through an automatic transmission. It’s a pretty good number for a vehicle that weighs 3,200 pounds. Right now, we don’t know much else performance-wise. Hell, we don’t even know what the drive wheels will end up being, but that’s alright. We’re still a while away from this car hitting anything resembling a production version.
In terms of styling, you’re going to see a lot FD RX-7 in here. Just look at the door handles, bubbly rear glass, circular taillight and pop-up headlights. That’s all RX-7, baby.
Unfortunately, I am in New York and not Japan. That means I have to look at the Iconic SP from afar, and so do you. Because of that, I figured I’d whip up a little gallery of every picture we currently have of the Iconic SP. Enjoy it, folks. I know I am.
