Inver Re, the reinsurance broking arm of the Ardonagh Group, has hired experienced capital markets executive Mark Shumway as its new Head of Advisory.

Shumway has both broader capital markets and specific insurance-linked securities (ILS) advisory expertise.

He had joined what was Hyperion’s capital markets group, as Head of Strategic Advisory at Hyperion X, back in 2019, becoming a Managing Director in the Howden Capital Markets unit in 2020.

Prior to Howden, Shumway had worked at broker JLT Re as the firm’s Global head of Strategic Advisory.

At that firm, Shumway also played a role as a representative of JLT Capital Markets, the insurance-linked securities (ILS) structuring and M&A arranging arm of the firm.

This saw him gaining experience in ILS structuring and working alongside teams delivering collateralised reinsurance transactions, as well as structural innovations such as private catastrophe bond deals.

Before his time at JLT Re, Shumway worked at reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter, where he held the role of Head, Strategic Advisory Asia Pacific.

Prior to that, Shumway held roles at rating agency A.M. Best and consulting firm KPMG.

Shumway has now started his new position this month at reinsurance broker Inver Re, as Head of Advisory based in London.
