How to get additional physical therapy appointments?

I’ve been going to physical therapy (PT) for almost a year for back pain. I originally went for pelvic pain but my back pain was so severe I couldn’t do the exercises so they switched to back exercises. I was offered a referral for pelvic pain by my doctor but I didn’t take it since the clinic didn’t require one. However, my insurance no longer approved sessions since August. They said my condition doesn’t warrant PT. According to the PT clinic, they have to do a “peer-to-peer” with my insurance before they can request for additional appointments. My insurance (Fidelis – Medicaid Managed Plan) claims that the clinic needs to do an appeal. Now things are stuck at a standstill, PT requesting for my insurance to call them and my insurance wanting PT to call them. There’s no progress in sight.

I have been suffering with back pain for 12 years but it was ignored by my doctor since I was “too young to have pain”. It’s gotten to the point where I cannot sit or even lay down without being in pain. Is there any way I could be approved for additional sessions? Would it help seeing a doctor who can write a referral for my back pain? Should I just get the referral for pelvic pain and send that to my insurance? I just want to return to PT to reduce my back pain.
