New Job – Help Determining Health Insurance (HDHP vs PPO)

I have a job offer that I’m planning on taking but in looking at the benefits package, they have two options for health plans. I’ve never had any job that offered multiple options. Right now I’m on an HDHP with my current employer. My health insurance is free but I pay $135 per pay for my wife and two kids. We have a $6,000 deductible with $3,000 being contributed to an HSA ($750 quarterly deposits) by my employer.

The new employer has two options. There a HDHP that’s $64 per paycheck for employee + family. $3,500 deductible, 80% coinsurance after deductible. Total max out of pocket $14,000. The would also contribute $48.08 per paycheck to an HSA with the HDHP. The PPO is $186 per paycheck. $1,500 deductible, 80% coinsurance after, max out of pocket $7,500. I don’t see any prescription information on the HDHP but there’s 5% coinsurance on generics, 25% on brand/specialty on the PPO plan. We have 5 total prescriptions that are ongoing. My current prescription insurance sucks so we have GoodRX Gold or whatever it’s called.

I would assume the PPO has better coverage and the price seems really good. I currently pay a total of $199.70 for health/dental/vision for employee + family. If I were to go with the PPO total cost would be $218.56 including dental and vision. The HDHP would cost $96.56 per paycheck.
