I am looking for cheaper health insurance because i am paying too much right now and I don’t even use it. My coworker gave me her health insurance agent’s phone number. She told me she is paying $18 a month! So I thought that is amazing, ill call and try and get the same plan since we both work at the same restaurant, and same position (server). When i called and gave them all my info, the quote for the cheapest plan for me was about $250. Then I asked my coworker how was hers $18 a month, and she said that she told them that her anual income is variable because of tips, and that she estimates she will make less than 13k, and that is how they offer her a cheap plan. (When In reality she will make about 40k at the end of the year). She said they only asked her about income during the application process but no one asked for income verification or paystubs after enrolling.

But I do know that in order to get health insurance you have to give them your ssn… would they be able to find out through your taxes that you are making more money? And how will that affect her?

Thanks!
