I was under the impression that my insurance was covering my therapy and now it’s not.

First off, I’m sorry, I don’t have any experience working with insurance and I’m just very confused and stressed at the moment, and I’m going to sound like an idiot because I have no idea what I’m doing. I just thought I should ask for help.

I’ve been going to therapy for a little over 2 months now, and the way my therapist talked about my insurance, it sounded like my insurance was covering everything. Initially it was going to be a $20 co-pay but then became $0 after what I assumed was some kind of call with the insurance.

Just today, my therapist informed me that our initial session costed around $120 and every session since has been $90. This completely blindsided me because I thought insurance was covering everything.

Apparently there is something about a deductible but honestly I was so shocked by how much I owe that I couldn’t pay attention to anything else.

Does anyone know how I should proceed? I don’t have the money to continue sessions, I just have no idea how this happened. My therapist suggested calling my insurance but where would I even begin with that conversation, and what would I need to have or know beforehand?

I can provide any information needed, I’m just super stressed at the moment and trying to navigate this situation. Thank you so much for your time.

Edit: I’m 23, my zip code is 40214, my income is around 40k a year, and I don’t know if I used the right flair, I have insurance through the UPS teamsters union.
