The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) is intensifying its efforts to aid residents impacted by the recent wildfires in British Columbia by deploying an on-site Community Assistance Mobile Pavilion (CAMP) in West Kelowna.
IBC had previously established a virtual version of its CAMP in response to the disaster. With evacuation orders now gradually lifting, the industry association has set up a physical location for residents to receive further assistance from trained personnel.
Starting from August 26, IBC’s CAMP staff have been stationed at Mount Boucherie Secondary School in West Kelowna (2751 Cameron Road) to offer guidance on navigating matters related to home, business, or vehicle insurance.
Residents are also encouraged to visit IBC’s Wildfires webpage for additional information about insurance coverage during wildfires, as well as the various stages of the claims process.
“Our hearts go out to the large amount of people who have been impacted by these wildfires and who have been forced to evacuate or whose property may have been damaged or destroyed,” said Aaron Sutherland, vice president, Western and Pacific at IBC.
“The past few weeks have been extremely stressful for residents in the region. Thanks to the heroic efforts of first responders, the situation is beginning to stabilize in several areas and the focus is shifting to recovery. Canada’s insurers are ready to assist policyholders through the entire claims process.”
With the deployment of the on-site CAMP, IBC joins many of its member insurance companies that are currently providing on-the-ground support in the region.
