Global insurance and reinsurance broker Aon has strengthened its Risk Capital capabilities with the appointment of Joe Peiser as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Commercial Risk Solutions and Paul Shedden as head of advanced risk analytics for Risk Capital.

Both of the appointments are effective immediately, and Peiser and Shedden will report to Andy Marcell, CEO of Risk Capital at Aon.

Shedden’s newly created advanced risk analytics role, further integrates data modelling and also accelerates market-making capabilities, says Aon.

It is interesting to see a broker explicitly mention market-making, as it’s a term that has traditionally been shied away from in insurance and reinsurance, where brokers have always stressed the relationship, rather than their roles in making markets.

Shedden will be tasked with further strengthening collaboration and innovation across the analytics and broking capabilities of Commercial Risk Solutions and Reinsurance Solutions, leveraging the expertise of data scientists, catastrophe modelers, and actuaries for the benefit of clients.

Most recently, he served as head of global and UK analytics for Aon’s Reinsurance Solutions. He brings almost 20 years of experience in actuarial, pricing and analytics, and underwriting roles.

“Paul is a trusted advisor at our firm and in the market and is uniquely positioned to help our clients across Risk Capital by accelerating the delivery of cutting-edge client solutions on a global scale,” said Marcell. “As volatility and complexity from climate risk to macroeconomic and inflation risk grows, our newly created advanced risk analytics team will tap the expertise of our regional and product groups across solution lines to deliver differentiated insights that help our clients make better decisions.”

Peiser, in his new role as CEO of Commercial Risk, assumes responsibility for driving the growth of the broker’s Commercial Risk Solutions arm, and collaborating with Reinsurance leaders across Risk Capital to develop innovative solutions.

He joined the company in 2021 as head of Commercial Risk for North America, and has decades of industry experience, working across broking, consulting, underwriting and claims management. He takes over from Lambros Lambrou, who was previously named CEO of Human Capital at Aon.

“At this pivotal moment where client need is evolving rapidly, our clients are looking for innovative tools and deep market knowledge to help clients assess, mitigate and transfer risk.

“Joe’s more than 30 years in the industry and proven track record will help enhance how Commercial Risk works with Reinsurance Solutions across Risk Capital to enhance how we serve our clients,” said Marcell.

In their new roles, the pair will work closely with Mindy Simon, Aon’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), and also the Aon Business Services division in order to accelerate the delivery of new client offerings.

Eric Andersen, Aon’s President, commented, “Today’s announcement represents further momentum of our Aon United strategy as we continue to align our Risk Capital and Human Capital capabilities and develop integrated solutions that respond to growing client need.

“Joe and Paul are experienced leaders who will help us unlock new value in our core business and accelerate innovation on behalf of our clients.”
