Prescription in appeal; can I pay out-of-pocket now and get reimbursed?

I have a denied prescription claim that is currently in appeal for health/prescription insurance that expired around the first of the month. The original claim was submitted about a week before the insurance expired. I found out last week that the claim was denied and pushed my provider to appeal it. I then found out a few days ago that the appeal process can take 30 days (I'm new to a lot of this), but I’ve been having pretty debilitating symptoms and don’t want to wait until early September to start treatment!

The prescription is $600 and I’m fortunate enough that I can technically pay that out-of-pocket, but that'll set me back. However, if I pay out-of-pocket now and the prescription is approved in appeal can I get it reimbursed via the claim?

My new health/prescription insurance won't likely start until mid September (according to HR) and I'm not sure this medication would be covered by the new insurance either, so I'm banking on this claim covering it!
