Everest Insurance (Everest), the insurance division of global underwriter Everest Re Group (Everest Re), has appointed Scott Leney as the new head of Asia Pacific (APAC) for its international division, effective November 06.

Career background

Leney (pictured) joined Everest from Marsh & McLennan Companies, where he was most recently the head of risk management for Asia & Pacific and country corporate officer for Australia. He was also a member of the Marsh Asia executive team, responsible for leading its senior risk managers and developing strategic solutions for the company’s largest clients.

Previously, Leney served as the CEO of Marsh Australia, where he led the expanded Australian business during the successful integration of JLT Australia. He was also the CEO of Marsh Pacific and a member of the Pacific Executive Committee and the International Executive Committee.

Currently, Leney is a deputy president and board member of The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF).

New role at Everest

As head of APAC for Everest’s international division, Leney will oversee the insurance division’s business strategy and growing portfolios in Asia and the Pacific led by Ben Carey (head of Asia) and Christian Colombera (head of Pacific), respectively.

Leney will be based in Sydney, Australia, and will report to Adam Clifford and Jason Keen, co-heads of Everest Insurance International.

Clifford welcomed Leney to the international division, highlighting that the new hire’s deep industry and regional expertise – along with his strong leadership – will help Everest meet its clients’ growing needs across APAC.

“Guided by Scott, our team of highly accomplished leaders and dedicated resources across the market will continue to expand on our best-in-class capabilities and product offerings to solve our clients’ most complex challenges,” Clifford said.

Keen said: “We continue to strengthen our offering with world-class talent in Asia Pacific and in key global markets where Everest is delivering top quality service and solutions required for today’s increasingly complex risk environment. I look forward to partnering with Scott and our senior team as we continue to expand our international presence and capabilities.”

This month, Everest also appointed a new chief commercial officer for its international division and a global chief underwriting officer.
