We have some bad news. Car thefts are on the rise. These are due to the ongoing shortage of car parts and delays in the delivery of new vehicles.

But there is some good news. There are plenty of ways you can help keep your car safe by investing in some extra security measures.

Cars with keyless entry automatically unlock when the key fob becomes detectable. Great if you’ve got your hands full. Not so good if a hacker or thief can trick your car , into thinking the key fob is nearby.

Car companies are continually developing new ways to update technology and anti-theft devices. So, if you’re contacted about a recall or software update, please don’t ignore it. Not sure if your car has been recalled? You can find out more by visiting: https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-recall.

With products to meet every budget, we’ve taken a look at some of the options available to you:

Steering Wheel Lock

We’re going old school here. But a steering wheel lock is a simple and efficient way to help deter thieves.

OBD Blocker

Limits access and potentially prevents thieves from plugging into the car’s computer to copy your key and drive the vehicle away.

Smartwater/Datatag/DNA marking

This marks the car with a forensic liquid, making it identifiable to authorities if it’s stolen. It also has stickers to show it’s been fitted to the vehicle to act as an added deterrent.

Dashcam

Thieves are less likely to target a car if they feel they are being recorded.
