Marketplace plan refusing to cover baby’s care prior to current year, even though I had an active plan at the time

I had a baby in December. She needed quite a few extra visits to the pediatrician after coming home from the hospital, due to having jaundice.

Marketplace says you have 60 days to add a new baby to your plan after they are born in order to back date their coverage to their birth. I did that, I added her information on the marketplace in January. I also renewed my coverage through them, although picked a bronze plan for the year instead of my gold plan from 2022.

Marketplace then sends me a notice saying they need proof of her “citizenship,” which I thought was insane given that they obviously had to pay for her birth, but I send in her social security info and they tell me that was accepted.

Now I’m getting told by my pediatrician office that all of her claims from December were denied, because she “wasn’t covered” at the time.

I call the actual insurance company (Regence). They tell me she’s definitely covered, and that marketplace needs to adjust the effective date because Regence can’t do that.

I call Marketplace and speak to two different people who tell me there is nothing they can do to add her to the policy in 2022. Even though I did everything they fcking said I needed to do.

Pediatrician literally won’t see my baby for another appointment because I have this outstanding balance of over $2,500 even though I have paid out the goddamned nose for this health insurance every single month (I get zero subsidies through MP) and did everything required to add my baby to the policy.

I am at a loss at this point. What do I have to say to them to get this resolved? Regence says there is nothing they can do and it has to be Marketplace that fixes this. I am literally shaking with anxiety and crying at the thought of having to talk with them again when they’re just going to tell me they can’t help me, even though Regence is telling me this is definitely something they should be able to change. What am I supposed to do now?
