Bill increased after applying insurance
I had what amounted to a 5 min Zoom call with a doctor at One Medical. The initial bill was $225, but I realized my insurance information wasn’t in the system. My plan is a HDHP. After inputting it into the system, I got billed about $550 (the total claim was $675). I told them I would obviously just like to pay out of pocket given the price difference, but they now refuse to do that.
Additionally, I was absent minded when filling the insurance info and forgot that (due to reasons) I have another active insurance plan that is not HDHP (but for which One Medical is out of network). I asked them to run the claim through that, and they said they can do that only by using this insurance as a secondary. So I’m not sure if that will work.
I have informed them I refuse to pay the price of almost $600, when I was originally informed the price was $225. What mechanisms (legal or otherwise) do I have at my disposal here to fight this? I’m pretty adamant that this is bullshit and I am ready to dispute it however necessary.
(And, yes, I understand I have an HDHP and signed up for high bills until I meet deductible, that is not the point — it just sounds absurd that they can just decide to jack up the price for 3x from what was originally informed for the same service. If the original price had been high already I would not complain.)
