Everest Insurance hires global underwriting chief

New CUO has “a strong track record of building exceptional global underwriting teams,” says chief executive

Everest Insurance, the insurance division of Everest Re Group, has announced the appointment of Mark Maritzen (pictured above) as global chief underwriting officer.

Maritzen will be based in New York and report to Mike Karmilowicz, president and CEO of Everest Insurance.

“Mark is a proven leader, with a strong track record of building exceptional global underwriting teams,” Karmilowicz said. “We believe his oversight will further enhance our global underwriting capabilities, ensuring we continue to deliver the highest level of quality and service that our clients expect from Everest.”

Mr. Maritzen brings to the role more than 25 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industries. His most recent position was at Berkshire Hathaway Re, where he managed and underwrote property program business. Prior to that, he served as chief underwriting officer for property North America at AIG. He has also held roles at Endurance Insurance/Sompo International, Tokio Marine Global, Guy Carpenter, and Marsh.

Everest Re also recently announced the appointment of Ricardo Anzaldua as executive vice president and general counsel.
