Authorization person messed up date of procedure, haven’t gotten authorization yet, but she says it’s ok to still have it done?

So, kind of complicated, but here goes. I have had a specialized MRI at a cancer center scheduled for 2 months, scheduled it in March. It is approximately 7 hours from my home, but this is where my insurance clears me to go. Anyways, on the road traveling to my appointment, I get a call from the person at radiology who handles authorization from insurance.

Apparently, she messed up the dates and the imaging has not been authorized yet. It took 5 phone calls to her and to my doctor’s office to even understand what was going on, because it really seems like this authorization person has no idea.

Anyways, she told me because it was her error, I’m good to go on the MRI, even though it has not been authorized yet. She also WON’T send me any documentation through email stating this. So, I only gave her word to go on. I’m so worried. I understand it’s her job, but she hasn’t been instilling a ton of confidence in me about understanding the process. I’m worried that I’m going to have the MRI and end up owing 1,000s of dollars bc of her error. It should have been authorized much, much earlier.

Also, this trip is costing me a lot of money and time and I’d really like to not have to reschedule. And possible canceris in the mix, so I’d like to get the MRI sooner than later.

I’m just at a loss and don’t know what to do. I’m losing sleep and beyond anxious. The MRI is meant to be today. How would you proceed? Do you think you’d be covered? Should I call insurance? Should I call patient relations at the facility? Any help or insight greatly appreciated.
