Can my child have two health insurance plans in different states?

Hi guys

Super confused about what the legalities are surrounding health insurances. So I gave birth this month in Boston and added him as a dependant to my work insurance (blue cross blue shield EPO). Unfortunately because of my super busy work schedule, i will not be able to take care of the baby myself and so he will be living in Texas with his grandparents for the next 2 years, visiting me in Boston only occasionally. We have added him as a dependant of his grandfather in texas under Cigna insurance as well. But i was just told by someone today that it is not legal to have dual insurances and that he can only have one insurance, either boston or texas. Also, he can be shown as a dependant in one insurance plan only.

That would mean he cannot have a pediatrician covered by insurance in Boston if we choose to go with the Texas insurance and vice versa.

Is this correct that he cannot have dual insurances? If anyone has any insight intp this, would love to know.

Thank you!!
