Jean-Louis Monnier, a long-standing insurance-linked securities (ILS) focused senior executive at global reinsurance giant Swiss Re, has been named Global Head of ILS, as the firm’s Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) reassigns some responsibilities.

Jean-Louis Monnier has been a Swiss Re employee since 2002 and in his time at the reinsurance company has worked his way through increasingly senior and insurance-linked securities (ILS) focused roles.

Monnier became Head of ILS for the EMEA region back in 2008, then in 2015 took on responsibility for P&C Structured Solutions UK & Africa and also became the Global co-Head of Swiss Re’s ILS business at that time.

In 2019, Monnier became the Head of Retrocession and ILS Structuring within Swiss Re’s Alternative Capital Partners division.

More recently, late last year Monnier also took on the CEO role for the reinsurance firm’s US broker-dealer arm, Swiss Re Capital Markets Corporation.

Now, as of this month, Monnier has stepped into a new role of Global Head of ILS.

We’re told this is part of a reassignment of certain responsibilities within the Swiss Re Alternative Capital Partners (ACP) division.

Swiss Re has been building out its alternative capital capabilities within ACP in recent years.

The company acts along the transactional chain of insurance-linked securities (ILS) and catastrophe bonds, including in the structuring, bookrunning and secondary trading of cat bonds, as well as managing investments into collateralized reinsurance and cat bond funds, plus its sidecar investment vehicles.

In addition, the ACP division acts on retrocessional arrangements for Swiss Re, as well as on innovative transactions such as the collateralised stop-loss arrangements it has entered into with capital market sources led by investment bank J.P. Morgan.
