So back in 2020, I was released from prison. Due to that, I was able to qualify for Medicaid in my state. It was great for the time I had it. Due to several raises at work, I no longer met the income requirement and my state told me I would no longer qualify for ARHome (the Arkansas Medicaid Program) once the emergency was over for the pandemic.

So started on the 1st of this month, I got a new insurance plan through Blue Cross (Silver Plan). I pay about $90 a month for my premium, but have a deductible of $6,700. I don't have any prescription drugs I use, but I do have a CPAP I am paying on. I don't have vision or dental insurance through them as my work offers that, just not health insurance.

I reviewed all my health spending from the past year and it totaled maybe $2,500-$3,000. I really am wondering if it's even worth it to have this insurance plan. Unless an emergency happens, I probably won't ever meet the deductible and so I'm throwing almost $1,100 down the drain every year in premiums. I did setup an HSA and estimated I spend MAYBE $500 a year on things like OTC meds mostly.

What are your thoughts? Are there any other options? Unless I pay a higher premium, my deductible is pointless and what I'm paying now is about the max I want to pay each month and that's considered "low".
