Doctor’s Appointment In Between Jobs

Hi,

I am 27 years old and will be switching jobs due to a better offer. My last day is Wednesday 4/12, and my current HR said my health insurance lasts until the end of the pay period, which is that same week on Friday 4/14. I start my new job on Monday 4/24, so I have a ~12 day break to myself.

I originally set up a doctor's appointment on Thursday 4/13 as kind of an annual checkup visit since I wanted to check on my health during this small break/gap in between jobs and I wanted to ask about my risk for diabetes and colon cancer (mom is diabetic and father passed away from colon cancer 2 years ago at the age of 55). The receptionist said I will most likely need to take at least a blood test.

If my health insurance is covered until the 14th, is that 4/13 doctor's appointment covered with all tests/follow up appointments after that date, or only the appointment on that date? For example, what if I take my blood test and need to meet with my doctor again for him to discuss the results with me, after 4/15? Would that mean I'd need to pay out of pocket for that follow-up appointment?

Would it be worth to enroll in COBRA just to cover the doctor's appointment? Or, since the appointment is not necessarily urgent, should I reschedule the appointment to a date after I start my new job (I would feel guilty for taking a sick day within the first 1-2 months if I just started).

Thank you for your help!
