Brian Duperreault joins board at US insurtech Joyn

27 March 2023

Brian Duperreault, formerly AIG CEO and Executive Chairman, has joined the board of Delaware-based insurtech Joyn Insurance as an independent director.

Mr Duperreault was CEO of AIG from 2017 to 2021 and says Joyn is “changing the game for insurance in ways that are long overdue” and will be the future of the industry, and he is honoured to play a part.

“Brian Duperreault is without question one of the biggest names and most experienced leaders in the entire insurance industry and we are proud that he will be bringing his expertise to our Board of Directors,” Joyn CEO Seraina Macia said.

Ms Macia was formerly CEO of Blackboard, AIG’s technology-focused subsidiary, and also spent eight years at Zurich and a decade at Swiss Re. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Monash University.

In January, Joyn announced $17.7 million in Series A funding. Jim Hackbarth, who was most recently President and CEO of brokerage group Assurex Global, is also on its board.

Launched in mid 2021, Joyn says it is unique within E&S (Excess & Surplus) as it offers an underwriting and workflow platform for the fastest and easiest-to-bind coverages for the market.

Joyn offers E&S coverage for property, general liability and excess. It has bound more than 700 policies with around 90 trading partners, covering more than 400 insureds.
