Secondary insurance is much better than primary insurance

Hi everyone, hoping to get some insight on a somewhat unique situation. We’re starting a family and it’s finally getting us to take a deep look at our insurance plans. Thank you for any responses in advance!

(Reference as Plan A): My wife is separately covered by an insurance policy through her employer. $7k deductible, 20% coinsurance, high out of pocket maximum.

(Reference as Plan B): My wife and I are covered under an insurance plan provided through my employer. This plan is substantially better than Plan A with a $3k deductible, lower coinsurance, and lower out of pocket maximums.

My rather poor understanding of our situation is that Plan A is considered her primary insurance no matter what, and we can’t designate a hospital to use Plan B, her secondary insurance. It seems like there is very little benefit to even having a secondary insurance plan.

My questions are: – am I understanding this situation correctly? – should we just waive insurance provided by her work and stick with Plan B as both our primary insurances?
