I’m thinking of switching to private health insurance but I really don’t know anything about it.

I’ve always had health insurance through my employer. I work in healthcare and have always worked in a hospital environment so my health benefits have always been great. Last year I got a job at a private clinic and the benefits are definitely not great. For my daughter and I, I pay $500 monthly and my deductible is $5000. My insurance doesn’t cover anything until I meet that deductible.

I sometimes get calls and texts about private insurance. I always delete them, but because my coverage is so bad I responded to one and spoke with them today. Their offer seems too good to be true. It’s about the same as what I’m paying now, but extremely low to non existent co-pays, low deductible, there was also something about them paying me if I get hurt or am hospitalized?

Am I falling for a scam? I no ZERO about insurance. I just sign up for what my job offers. But at this point something’s gotta give because I can’t even afford to go to urgent care or get a prescription.

Also, I’m a single mother. I’m wondering if I should be looking into Obamacare? Someone please tell me where to start!
